Every two years, the reinsurance group WAICA Re brings together some of the best reinsurance brokers from across Africa and the Middle East to discuss trends that affect the industry. In 2025, the Brokers Power Up Conclave was held in the awesome scenery of the Maldives at the end of July and was dedicated to 'Creating and Sustaining Competitive Advantage in an Age of Disruption'.
Erminio Putignano from PUSH and our friend Prof. Samuelson Appau from the Melbourne Business School were the keynote speakers and facilitators of the three-day event. It started with assessing the nature and impact of various sources of disruption in the reinsurance sector and progressed with outlining strategies to address them in the short and long term. A lively debate took place on the role of climate change, geopolitics and AI in shaping the future - and on how brand strategies could be used as a compass in a turbulent world.
